Is not sleeping well a common problem?
Getting a poor nights sleep (insomnia) is a massive problem. It affects a third of all people and amazingly there are 15 million prescriptions written by doctors every single year.
When you dig deeper this gets really frightening as the Royal Pharmaceutical Society believes that about half of all the people who don't sleep well are putting their health at risk by buying pills over the counter.
Can hypnotherapy help me sleep better?
The answer is yes*. Tamsin Cooper Hypnotherapy can help with insomnia and the problems that cause it.
Research shows that sleeping pills are not an effective way to solve the problem and self-medicating may very well mean that underlying health problems go undetected. For example, if you are waking up in the middle of the night needing the toilet it might be a sign of undiagnosed diabetes. It is really important that before I help you have been to see your doctor.
It may be that you do not sleep well because you are in pain through illness. I can help with this. I treated my MKFM co-presenter Andy for pain management and he was delighted with the results
Why shouldn't I just rely on sleeping pills?
Research has shown that half of the people who have problems sleeping have endured it for over 10 years. So in my opinion the drugs aren't solving the problem and getting to the root cause.
Another problem with sleeping pills is that they knock you out. Sleep should be relaxing and natural. It is very much a healing process for our body and mind. With pills you don't really get all of the natural effects. Experts have claimed that by taking sleeping pills your daytime concentration levels are one third less of what they should be.
How does a lack of sleep affect you?
I wonder how much of this feels familiar to you?
- Lying awake at night worrying about something.
- Feeling irritable with friends, family, work colleagues, and those around you.
- Having low energy levels.
- Feeling stressed.
- Sadness. People who suffer from sleep deprivation are twice as likely to become depressed.
- A lower libido and less interest in making love.
- Dark circles under your eyes, looking older, skin ageing.
- Being forgetful. Lack of sleep affects concentration.
How can hypnotherapy help me?
